Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

RHP Jake Thompson tossed seven shutout innings to help lift the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (19-17) to a three-game sweep of the Toledo Mud Hens (16-19) with a 5-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Field in Toledo.

Thompson (2-4) allowed just two hits to go along with two walks and four strikeouts in his seven innings of work. RHP Edubray Ramos (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 K) got the final six outs for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

The win is the fourth straight for the IronPigs, which marks their longest winning streak since a four-gamer from August 22-25, 2015.

Andrew Knapp's two-run shot in the top of the first off of Toledo starter Matt Boyd gave the Pigs an early 2-0 lead. Nick Williams (1-3, 2B, RBI, 2 R) had drawn a two-out walk in the frame before scoring on Knapp's round-tripper.

The home run was Knapp's (1-3, HR, RBI, 2 R) fifth of the season and extended his hitting streak to six games.

Boyd (1-3) gave up the two runs on five hits while walking a pair and fanning five in 7.0 IP.

Trailing 2-0, the Mud Hens had runners at first and second with one out in the seventh, but Thompson got Chad Huffman to fly to right and Cam Perkins robbed Argenis Diaz with a diving catch in center to end the threat.

A three-run eighth opened up a 5-0 lead for the Pigs as Williams plated a run via an RBI double, Perkins (2-4, RBI) came through with an RBI single and Will Venable was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded which allowed a run to score.

All three runs were charged to Toledo RHP Bobby Parnell (0.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB).

The Pigs will return home to begin a three-game set with the Syracuse Chiefs on Monday night. First pitch from Coca-Cola Park is set for 7:05 p.m. as RHP Mark Appel (3-2, 3.38) gets the ball for Lehigh Valley against Syracuse RHP Austin Voth (2-1, 2.31).
