Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

YESTERDAY: The RailRiders claimed a 3-2 win in a pitchers' duel against the Indianapolis Indians on Saturday at PNC Field. SWB clinched the series and improved to 5-3 on the nine-game homestand with a season-high-tying third straight home win.

PARM CHARM: Chris Parmelee smashed a leadoff home run in the fourth inning for the game's deciding run. He began 2016 in a 2-for-26 (.077) funk with 0XBH, 1RBI, 10K. He has since gone 23-for-72, 9XBH, 8RBI, 9BB, 14R over 20 games, slashing .319/.395/.528/.923.

HE'S BACK: Gary Sanchez went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his first big league start Friday night. Yesterday he was optioned back to SWB and he reported today. Sanchez left SWB sharing the IL lead in doubles and ranked second with 17 extra-base hits: 11-2B, 1-3B, 5HR. A .175 bat after his first 10 games, thereafter he went 25-for-71 with 11 extra-base hits and 15 RBIs in 17 games, slashing .352/.387/.592/.978. His 21 RBIs ranked second on the squad and tied him for fifth in the circuit. When he was behind the plate, opposing base stealers were caught eight times in 16 attempts for the IL's second-best caught-stealing percentage. Sanchez hit safely in each of his last nine SWB games, posting multiple knocks in five of those affairs. During his hit streak he went 16-for-40 with six extra-base hits (three homers) and 10 RBIs while slashing .400/.415/.700/1.115. The team went 15-10 when he started behind the plate and the pitchers owned a 2.84 ERA, a team number that would rank second to only Indy in the IL.

GUILTY AS CHARGED: Aaron Judge drove in his team-best 22nd RBI with a fourth-inning double on Thursday. He singled up the middle in his first at-bat yesterday. He ranks among the IL's best in homers (T-2nd, 7), RBIs (T-4th, 22), extra-base hits (4th, 16) and total bases (3rd, 66). His five outfield assists pace the team and trail only Buffalo's Junior Lake (7), Charlotte's J.B. Shuck (6), Durham's Jaff Decker (6) and Norfolk's Dariel Alvarez (6) in the IL. Over his last 12 games, Judge has five homers and 11 RBIs.

THAT'S A START: After starting the year with a composite 7.13 ERA between Advanced-A and Double-A, fill-in starter Eric Ruth (1-0) outdueled one of MiLB's top pitching prospects, Jameson Taillon (2-2), with six innings of two-run ball. Ruth struck out seven and walked one.

CLOSING TIME: Anthony Swarzak recorded the final four outs for his third career save and his second in three days. Before his four-out boltdown of Pawtucket on Thursday, his only other career save came in his fifth career appearance when he tossed a pair of innings for the GCL Twins against the Red Sox on July 22, 2004. The overwhelming majority of Swarzak's big-league appearances have come in relief: 159 of 191 (83%).
