Today's Game
This afternoon, the Bisons face on the Norfolk Tides in the finale of a three-game series at Harbor Park (1:05 p.m.). The Herd has won six of its last eight games, including a 4-2 record on its current roadtrip that ends today. The Bisons return to Coca-Cola Field on Monday for a seven-game homestand against Toledo and Pawtucket.
Last Game (BUF 1, NOR 0)
Five Bisons pitchers combined on a seven-hit shutout and C Tony Sanchez hit a home run in the sixth inning as the Herd defeated Norfolk, 1-0. RHP Chris Leroux struck out five and allowed just three hits in five innings for his first Bisons win. SHP Pat Venditte got Buffalo out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the eighth to preserve the win.
vs. Norfolk (1-1)
These teams won't meet again for two months as the Tides don't travel to Coca-Cola Field until a three-game set, July 18-20. A victory today would give the Herd their third Harbor Park series win in the last four years. Buffalo took three of four in Norfolk in both 2013 and 2014.
Drew Hutchison
RHP Drew Hutchison makes his seventh start with the Herd this year. Five of his six previous outings have been on the road, where he sports a 2.96 ERA and 32 of his 36 strikeouts. On Tuesday, the righty allowed just one run in six innings of a no-decision in Durham. Hutchison has posted a 1.77 ERA this season from the third inning on.
Dalton Pompey
OF Dalton Pompey has hit in seven straight games, his second hit streak of at least six games this year. The outfielder began the season with a six-game hit streak, April 12-17. In his most recent stretch, Pompey has averaged .357 (10-28) with three doubles, a home run, five RBI and three runs scored since last Sunday.
Pitching Prowess
In the last eight games, Bisons' pitchers have posted a 1.03 ERA, with 74 strikeouts to only 54 hits allowed in 70.0 innings. The stretch has lowered the overall team ERA from 3.83 to 3.21, the 5th-best mark in the International League. The bullpen has been especially tough, with just one earned run over its last 24.0 innings (0.38 ERA). Buffalo's 1-0 win last night was their third shutout this roadtrip.
Bisons Bits
RHP Bo Schultz joined the team on an MLB injury rehab assignment yesterday and threw an inning of shutout relief...The Bisons already have 10 wins (10-15) when scoring three runs or less this year, including all four of their wins this roadtrip. Buffalo was just 19-57 (.250) in such games a season ago.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (19-19) lost in 10 innings on Saturday, 6-5 to the Rangers. Texas' OF Drew Stubbs hit the walk-off home run with two outs in the 10th off RHP Gavin Floyd. Toronto hit three home runs as a team, with 1B Justin Smoak and SS Troy Tulowitzki going back-to-back in the ninth to force extras. Toronto takes on Texas today at 3:05 p.m.
