
Thompson named to Western Conference All-Star team

LOS ANGELES - Sparks veteran forward Tina Thompson has been named to the Western Conference All-Star Team in the 2009 WNBA All-Star Game it was announced today.
Thompson will be participating in her eighth All-Star Game after averaging 13.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in the first half of the 2009 season. She has notched double-figure point totals in nine of the Sparks first 12 games this season.
The Los Angeles native is in her first season with the Sparks after playing 12 years with the Houston Comets. In Houston, she was named an All-Star starter five times (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003,) and a reserve twice (2006, 2007). In 2000, Thompson was named the All-Star Game MVP, after scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for the West in a 73-61 win.
Thompson ties Sparks' teammate and fellow All-Star Lisa Leslie with her record-setting eighth All-Star selection.
