Providence Bruins News Release

The Providence Bruins opened the 2003-04 season with their second win in as many nights, as they shut out the Worcester IceCats, 1-0, at the Centrum Centre in Worcester on Saturday night. The Bruins are 2-0-0-0 and have begun the season tied with the Lowell Lock Monsters atop the Atlantic Division standings.

Second-year center Kris Vernarsky scored for the second time in as many nights, notching a power play goal in the first period that stood up as the game-winner. Worcester native and former IceCats captain Ed Campbell earned one assist, while right wing Pat Leahy had the other.

Goaltender Tim Thomas, an 18-game winner with Providence last season, stopped all 24 shots he faced in posting his second career AHL shutout.
