
Bulldogs win their first game of the season

CLEVELAND, OH - Bulldogs defenceman Patrick Traverse scored with just 44 seconds remaining in regulation time to give Hamilton a 3-2 victory over the Cleveland Barons at the Gund Arena on Saturday night. The win was the Bulldogs first of the season and the first for Hamilton head coach Doug Jarvis. The Bulldogs record now improves to one win and one loss on the season.
The Cleveland Barons opened the scoring at the 4:56 mark of the first period with a goal from Brad Boyes. Assists on the play went to Miroslav Zalesak and Patrick Rissmiller.
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the second period as Tomas Plekanec scored a shorthanded and unassisted goal at the 1:24 mark of the second period. Rissmiller would also score a second period goal for Cleveland.
Hamilton tied the score 2-2 at 3:37 of the third period as Francois Beauchemin scored the Bulldogs first power play goal of the season. Phillipe Plante and Pierre Dagenais earned assists on the goal.
Traverse then scored the Bulldogs game-winner on the power play at the 19:16 mark of the third. The lone assist went to Plekanec.
In goal, Jean-Francois Damphousse picked up his first Bulldogs victory by making 24 saves. Seamus Kotyk suffered the loss (29 saves) in the Barons home opener.
The Bulldogs will return to Hamilton on Thanksgiving Day - Monday, October 13th at 4:00 p.m. for their home opener against the Toronto Roadrunners.
