Guelph Storm News Release

The Guelph Storm Hockey Club announced that goaltender Thomas McCollum is the Grand & Toy Player of the Week for the week of January 15th-January 21st.

The rookie netminder won one of two starts during the week with a shootout loss in his second game. With a 5-0 shutout on Friday and a 2-1 loss on Saturday, McCollum recorded a goals against average of 0.48 and a save percentage of 0.985. The 17-year old also notched his third shutout of the season in the 5-0 white wash of the Storm's division rivals, the Owen Sound Attack on Friday night.

McCollum earns the honour for the second time in four weeks and will also be the Guelph Storm nominee for OHL Player of the Week.

Not eligible for the NHL Draft until the 2008 Draft, McCollum is currently ranked first in the OHL with a 2.21 goals against average, second in save percentage (0.923) and tied for second in shutouts with three.

Friday night's shutout win was monumental for McCollum as he set a new Storm record for most shutouts by a rookie goalie in one season - formerly held by Dwight LaBrosse (2 - 2001/02). The 17 year old also tied the Storm record for number of wins by a rookie goalie in one season with 16 (Danny Taylor 2003/04).
