Welcome to Eagles' Nest Notes, the weekly Saginaw Spirit update and preview. The Spirit enter the week with a record of 27-17-0-2 and 56 points. Saginaw is in third place in the OHL West Division, one point behind second place Sarnia and seven points behind first place Plymouth. The Spirit will take on the Oshawa Generals Friday night and the Windsor Spitfires Saturday night at home, then head to Windsor on Sunday for a second match-up against the Spits.

OHL Top-20 Leader Boards

Forward Jack Combs (8-17-25) is 13th in game winning goal scoring (4 gwg)

Goalie Ryan Daniels is ranked 4th in total wins (23), 10th in goals against average (322 gaa) and save percentage (0.902)

Forward Tyler Haskins (10-42-52) is ranked 11th in assists scoring

Forward Ryan McDonough (24-16-40) is tied for 5th in power play goal scoring (15 ppg).

Defenseman Patrick McNeill (17-24-41) is 6th in d-man scoring

Forward Jan Mursak (17-39-56) is 4th in rookie scoring, tied for 10th in plus/minus with a plus-21 and ranked 17th in assists scoring.

Forward Tom Pyatt (23-26-49) is tied for 2nd in short-handed goal scoring (4 shg), tied for 3rd in game winning goal scoring (6 gwg) and is tied for 10th in plus/minus with a plus-21

Defenseman Nigel Williams (13-11-24) is ranked 19th in rookie scoring

Forward Tomas Zaborsky (10-17-27) is ranked 13th in rookie scoring.

Forward Ryan McDonough is leading the team in goal scoring with 24 goals.

Forward Tyler Haskins is leading the team in assists scoring with 42 assists.

The Generals beat the Spirit in the first of two contest this season, winning 5-3 in Oshawa on December 17th. The Spirit have a record of 4-4-0-0 against the Generals since 2002, with a record of 2-1-0-0 when playing at the Dow Event Center.

Oshawa enters the week with a record of 22-17-1-4, 49 points and second place in the OHL East Division. The high-powered Gen's offense led by phenom John Tavares (46-42-88), Brett MacLean (31-34-65) and Cal Clutterbuck (24-34-58) have accounted for 194 goals this season. Rookie Michael Del Zotto (8-38-46) is the teams highest scoring rookie and has been a staple on the blue line. The netminding duties have been shared by four goalie this season but Marieville, PQ native Loic Lacasse has been the constant presence in net since arriving in Oshawa in late December.

The Spirit - Spitfires season series is tied at one game apiece. The Spirit beat the Spits 5-3 in September but lost 4-3 in December. Since 2002 Saginaw has a record of 7-4-1-0 against Windsor. Forward Tom Pyatt leads the Spirit in scoring against the Spitfires, notching 2 goals and 2 assists in 1 game.

Windsor is in 5th place in the OHL West Division with a record of 14-28-1-1 and 30 points. Center Joshua Bailey (14-24-38) has notched 3 goals and 9 assists since being traded from Owen Sound in early December. Forwards Bradley Snetsinger (12-19-31), Mickey Renaud (13-17-30), Keaton Turkiewicz (15-13-28) and Adam Henrique (13-11-24) lead the Spits' in scoring. Defenseman Keith Wynn (3-15-18) and Blake Parlett (3-8-11) work the blue line. Rookie Andrew Engelage has been called upon to serve in net with the departure of Anthony Guadagnolo to Owen Sound.
