NHL Camps Update: Kellan Tochkin, Thomas Heemskerk

Thomas Heemskerk turned in two strong performances at the San Jose Sharks' rookie camp earlier this week, going 2-0 against the Anaheim Ducks' rookies with a 1.44 goals against average and a .953 save percentage. While most Americans were enjoying Labor Day, Heemskerk had to work overtime, stopping 26 of 27 Ducks shots through regulation and overtime before stopping 7 of 8 shooters in a lengthy shootout in Monday's 2-1 victory. He followed that up by stopping 35 of 37 shots in a 5-2 victory over Anaheim Wednesday evening.

"It was kind of surreal, I guess, seeing your name on an NHL jersey. But once the anthem was over, it just felt normal and like another game," Heemskerk said. "Everything's been pretty good. I work with both goalie coaches every day, and I've been getting good feedback."

Kellan Tochkin potted two goals for the Vancouver Canucks' rookies in a 4-3, come from behind exhibition victory over the University of Alberta Golden Bears. Tochkin, who was signed by the Canucks in July, played on a team that also featured former Silvertips Taylor Ellington and Dan Gendur.

"It was something I'll remember for a long time," Tochkin said. "The first goal - Mario Bliznak took it hard to the net, I went hard to the net, luckily the puck came right to my stick off a rebound, and I was able to put it in."

Silvertips, Reebok Launch New Edge Uniforms

The Everett Silvertips, in association with Reebok Hockey and the Canadian Hockey Leagues, have unveiled the new Reebok EDGE Uniform System that will be used throughout the Canadian Hockey Leagues. Each of the 60 Major Junior clubs will be introducing new home and away EDGE jersey designs for the 2009-10 season.

The jerseys and socks, which are tighter fitting and less water absorbent, allow for more flexibility and greater maneuverability on the ice. The original Reebok Edge Jerseys were debuted at the NHL All-Star Game in 2007 and were implemented league-wide in the NHL for the 2007-08 season. By upgrading to the Reebok EDGE Uniform System, the CHL joins the National Hockey League and American Hockey League in the evolution of the game.

"Reebok Hockey proudly welcomes the CHL as part of our EDGE team. Every player in the league will now benefit from the same advantages as the pros with our lightweight, moisture-wicking materials and innovative design," said Glen Thornborough, VP Global Sports Marketing Reebok-CCM. "These young players are the future of the sport and now have the best products available to them. We're excited to provide them with the tools needed to advance to the next level."

The Reebok EDGE jersey consists of advanced materials with the following benefits:

*Pro Weight AirKnit front panel for optimum ventilation and breathability

*Four-way stretch mesh for the underarm and back areas provides the ideal balance of ease of movement and ventilation

*Xtrafil heavy duty fabric provides durability in the high abrasion areas (elbows and shoulders)

Fans can view all 120 brand new Reebok EDGE jersey designs by visiting CHL.ca. All jerseys will be available for purchase at the CHL's site; Silvertips EDGE jerseys are also available at Silvertips.com . The Silvertips, along with the rest of the Western Hockey League, will not be wearing alternate jerseys in 2009-10.
