Trenton Thunder News Release

Behind a strong outing by Dillon Tate, the Thunder rallied early Saturday night en route to defeating the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 9-1, in front of a crowd of 8,014 at ARM & HAMMER Park, the 16th-largest crowd in franchise history.

With no score in the game, the Thunder (36-24) loaded the bases in the bottom of the third on a pair of singles and a throwing error. Zack Zehner then drove a double to the left field wall, scoring two off Binghamton (33-28) starter Nabil Crismatt. Gosuke Katoh followed with a RBI-groundout, and after Crismatt reloaded the bases by issuing two walks, Mandy Alvarez hit a grand slam to left field, giving Trenton a 7-0 lead. The seven runs matched a Thunder season-high for runs in an inning.

Dillon Tate pitched six quality innings for the Thunder, scattering five hits and allowing just one run on a solo homer by Champ Stuart in the fifth.

The Thunder added to their lead in the fourth, when Ricky Surum, making his double-A debut, tripled to right-center and scored on a wild pitch by Crismatt. Jhalan Jackson added a solo home run to right field in the eighth inning off reliever Austin McGeorge for the evening's final run, giving Jackson a homer in his second straight game.

Rehabbing New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles in his second game for the Rumble Ponies.

Brody Koerner and Caleb Frare combined for three innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits as the Thunder claimed the series to set up a chance for a sweep.

Your Thunder conclude their homestand on Sunday afternoon at 1pm against the Rumble Ponies. RHP Jonathan Loaisiga (1-0, 3.00) will start for the Thunder, and Binghamton has yet to announce its starter. The first 1,025 fans ages 5-13 will receive a Greg Bird replica jersey, presented by St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center. Tickets are available by phone at 609-394-3300 or online at TrentonThunder.com.
