Third Consecutive Pelican, Jared Gothreaux Named Pitcher of the Week

The Pelicans have won 15 straight contests which is a new American Association and franchise record. With strong pitching and defense being the big key to their success, Pointstreak.com recognizes the Pelicans in naming Jared Gothreaux (pronounced Go-Tro) the American Association Pitcher of the Week. Affectionately known as "Goat" by fans and teammates, he helped the Pelicans beat the El Paso Diablos on July 12 and he earned the win against the Grand Prairie AirHogs on July 17.

Last Saturday night, Gothreaux got the win as he tossed a solid 6 1/3 innings against the AirHogs, only giving up two runs off seven hits while striking out a season high 12 batters.

On July 12, Gothreaux threw ten stellar innings against El Paso, only allowing two runs run off eleven hits while striking out five on the night. Gothreaux tossed a season high 131 pitches on the evening.

On the season, the work-horse righty is 6-5 in an amazing 85.2 innings pitched and leads the team with 60 strikeouts.

He is the third straight Pelicans pitcher to win the weekly honors this season. Dane Devalk and Bryan Rembisz won the awards in the previous weeks.

Offensively, Josh Alley of the St. Paul Saints was named Pointstreak.com American Association Batter of the Week. Last week, Alley hit .556 with ten hits, six RBI's, and eight runs scored.

Pointstreak is the official statistician for the American Association.
