
Difference of Bull Pens Helps Saints Sweep Diablos

The Saint Paul Saints, behind a strong effort from their bull pen, would be able to drop El Paso 10-6 on Sunday night at Cohen Stadium. The Saints bull pen allowed just two runs in five innings of work and it helped them to sweep the Diablos and win their sixth straight game.
After the Saints scored three early runs the Diablos came back to take the lead with a four run fourth inning. Bryon Smith had the big hit in the inning driving in two with a single. The Saints didn't wait long to take the lead back. They scored two runs in the very next half inning to take a 5-4 lead. El Paso came back to tie the game when Mike Provencher had a two out RBI double in the fifth and then took the lead when Jeff Vincent scored on a wild pitch in the sixth. The Saints would take control of the game down the stretch by scoring five runs over the seventh and eighth innings. The tied the game with a run in the seventh and then took the lead the lead by scoring four runs after the bases were empty and two out in the eighth inning.
Jeff Vincent led the Diablos attack at the plate going 3-4 with two doubles and a triple. Bryon Smith helped out going 2-5 with a double and two RBI. El Paso's struggles in the field continued as they committed four errors. They ended up committing nine errors in the series.
Starter Aaron Kalb would get a no decision in the game after going six innings. He allowed four earned runs on nine hits. He was up to get a win after leaving the game but the bull pen would not be able to hold that lead. El Paso's bull pen would allow five runs over the final three innings. St. Paul Starter Ryan Morse would last only four innings allowing four runs, but the Saints' bull pen allowed only two runs over the final five innings.
El Paso now welcomes in Grand Prairie for a three game series starting on Monday. Shaun Ellis (8-1, 4.13) will be on the mound for the Diablos. It is Mission Monday as part of the proceeds will go to the El Paso Police Foundation. First pitch is slated for 7:05. Fans can listen in online at www.diablos.com.
