
Pheasants Come Back Over Wingnuts Again

SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 6-4 to the Sioux Falls Pheasants at Sioux Falls Stadium on Monday night.
The Wingnuts held leads of 2-0 and 4-1, but the Pheasants came from behind for a second time in three nights to take three of four in the series.
With the game tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Joe Anthonsen singled through the right side and was sacrificed to second by Tim Hutting. Reggie Abercrombie singled to right field to drive in Anthonsen and give the Pheasants their first lead of the night. In the top of the inning, the Wingnuts had first and third and one out, but Sioux Falls' starter Ryan Rodriguez got Jorge Cortes to hit into an inning-ending double play.
With the Wingnuts leading 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth, Reggie Abercrombie drew a two-out walk from Adam Cowart with no one on base. Abercrombie stole second and advanced to third on an errant throw by Jeff Christy. Beau Torbert singled home Abercrombie to tie the game with a line drive to left field.
The Wingnuts jumped on Rodriguez early, scoring twice after there were two outs and no one on base. Cortes was hit by a pitch and moved to second on an infield single to shortstop by Michael Bell. Mario Delgado hit an infield single toward the middle of the diamond that went off of Anthonsen's glove and allowed Cortes to score. Christy was next and hit a groundball back to the mound that Rodriguez batted into right field to score Bell.
The Pheasants got a run back in the bottom of the first against Cowart, but Steve Pearson hit a line drive two-run home run to open a 4-1 lead. The Pheasants began their comeback in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single up the middle by Gus Milner.
Cowart took a no-decision, allowing four runs, three earned, in 5.1 IP. Cowart struck out three and walked four while allowing seven hits. Rodriguez earned the win allowing four earned runs on eight hits in seven innings. Brandon Mathes took the loss in relief, allowing two runs, one earned in one inning.
Cortes had his hitting streak end at 15 games. The Wingnuts hit into four groundball double plays in the game. Wichita re-signed infielder Jake Bradshaw before the game. Jackson Melian left the team and returned home to Venezuela, making room for Bradshaw.
The Wingnuts open a three-game series at Lincoln on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Gabe Medina goes to the mound for the Wingnuts.
