Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 29, 2006) - The Long Island Ducks will host their First Annual Breast Cancer Awareness night this Saturday. During the September 2 contest, the Ducks will don commemorative pink jerseys and play with special pink bats that will be auctioned off with all proceeds donated by the QuackerJack Foundation to the participating organizations.
"We anticipate that our fans will embrace the first annual pink jersey and bat auction much like they do the Patriotic Jerseys," says Ducks general manager Michael Hirsch. "Our organization is proud to be able to assist these organizations in their quest to combat and increase awareness of Breast Cancer on Long Island."
The auction of the commemorative pink jerseys and bats will take place between September 2 and September 23. Bids will start at $75 and will be raised in $10 minimum increments. Fans interested in bidding can do so by visiting the auction table at any Ducks home game between the second and 23rd in the Waddle In Shop. The final bids will be taken at the conclusion of the visitors half of the seventh inning of the September 23 game. Fans unable to make it to the ballpark can place bids by phone at 631-940-3825, extension 113. Phone bids will be accepted until September 23 at 5:00 p.m.
Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, and Suffolk Medical Imaging, P.C. have signed on as the event's corporate sponsors. On September 2, they will provide 1,000 copies of Ray Negron's best selling book The Boy of Steel to children 14 and under. Negron will also be on hand that evening to autograph his book, which teaches a young boy with cancer the important lesson of never giving up, through his love of baseball. In addition, the first 1,500 adults into the ballpark will receive commemorative pink T-shirts. The organizations will also hand out a commemorative PlayBill that details each organization involved with the event to the first 5,000 fans.
