Theme Nights: January 2022

January 4, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

2022 has arrived, Blade City, and we have a busy month of January ahead!

We have four amazing theme nights in the works, along with several more promo events, welcoming some of the finest individuals from all over Canada into our playground over the next four weeks. We've taken advantage of a busy month of home games to bring you a ton of exciting additions to our regular schedule.

Friday, January 7th - Superhero Night, Presented by Athabasca Basin Security

We're thrilled to team up with Athabasca Basin Security to present Superhero Night as we take on Connor Bedard and the Regina Pats at SaskTel Centre this Friday. You don't have to be faster than a speeding bullet to enjoy what we have in store, as we recognize those in our community who do what they can to make our world a better place.

We're encouraging you to nominate a 'local superhero' in the days leading up to the game, and they could score free tickets!

While you're at it, dust off that old Superman or Wonder Women costume and get dolled up for the big game!

Saturday, January 15th - Western Night

We're turning SaskTel Centre into the local honky-tonk for Western Night on January 15th! Giddy up in your finest western gear as we take on the Swift Current Broncos, and you could potentially win some cool prizes!

DJ Kush is creating a country-esque playlist that'll run all night long, and Pokecheck will be wrangling together a few special features for the game as well.

Local minor hockey goaltenders will receive a special presentation and salute in our pregame show on this night. Ahead of puck-drop, we're inviting the last line of defence from the community to lace up in their gear and line up on the goal line! Email info@saskatoonblades.com for more information!

This is also our first of two rain-check nights, so be sure to get full value for your unused tickets and enjoy what's sure to be a great night at the rink.

Friday, January 21st - Girls Rock Night, presented by Dance Street

We're rolling out the red carpet for a night full of empowerment for women of all ages on January 21st, as we take on the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Team Canada defenceman Bridgette Lacquette will be on hand to sign autographs and say a friendly hello to every fan who walks through the door.

Lacquette has become a national figure in women's and indigenous athletics, not only becoming the first First Nations player to lace up for Team Canada, but also breaking a barrier in becoming the first Indigenous woman to scout for an NHL team (Chicago Blackhawks).

We'll also be offering ladies night ticket specials, and discounts on wine throughout the game!

Saturday, January 22nd - Pride Night

We're thrilled to announce our collaboration with local inclusion groups and organizations to introduce Pride Night on January 22nd.

Join us as we open our doors to to the LGBTQ+ community by wearing special theme jerseys as we take on the Winnipeg ICE. This will be our first team-driven theme jersey of the season, with all game-worn jerseys going up for auction in the days leading up to the contest.

Stay tuned for a first glimpse at what the jerseys will look like, and some of the other unique design characteristics they have!

Sunday, January 30th - Family Skate & U7 Night, presented by Tim Horton's

Our final game of January may not fit in line with our Theme Night schedule, but it's certainly worth circling on the calendar.

Our friends from Tim Horton's are helping fill the stands with U7 minor hockey teams as we welcome the Brandon Wheat Kings to SaskTel Centre. All U7 squads within Saskatoon are encouraged to reach out and learn how to get into the doors for free.

Plus, bring your own skates/helmet to the game and lace-up after the final buzzer sounds! We're inviting all fans to take to the ice for a post-game skate-around.
