Wheat Kings Launch Hockey Fights Cancer Month

Brandon, MB - The Brandon Wheat Kings are excited to announce that the month of January will be Hockey Fights Cancer month in the Wheat City.

For the month of January, the Wheat Kings in partnership with Progressive Westman and Vionell Holdings have turned all the Wheat Kings Fight apparel lavender, with all proceeds going to Cancer Care Manitoba.

Last month, the Wheat Kings raised just over $1,000 for the Kidney Foundation of Canada in honor of long-time volunteer Al Gibbs.

"Our fans have gotten behind this initiative in the first month, and we're only just beginning," said Director of Strategic Marketing Branden Crowe. "We had some great prizes donated to be given away to those who bought merchandise in December, and we have more on tap for January."

Fans who support the cause in January will be entered for a chance to win a pair of signed Pierre-Luc Dubois Winnipeg Jets game worn gloves, game used sticks from Winnipeg Jets stars Connor Hellebuyck, Mark Scheifele and Josh Morrisey and prize packs from the Wheat Kings and Howie's Hockey Tape.

In addition to the new lavender Wheat Kings Fight clothing line, the Wheat Kings will wear a special edition jersey presented by Vionell Holdings on January 22nd vs the Regina Pats. These sweaters will be auctioned off, with proceeds also going to Cancer Care Manitoba.

"It's been a number of years since we have done a Pink the Rink style sweater," added Crowe. "This year, we put a modern spin on it to line up with the NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer theme. Having our players submit names of family and friends is a special touch that means a lot to these families."

This one-of-a-kind design, produced by Brooks Freeman Design of Virden, features a custom Wheat Kings cancer ribbon logo, Vionell Holdings company logo shoulder patch and names submitted by players and staff of family and friends who have fought, or continue to fight their battle with cancer.

The style of auction (Live or Online) will be dependent on the Manitoba Government Capacity limits for Westoba Place at the time of the January 22nd game.
