Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. â The Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL have re-signed RW Jon Mirasty and added LW Lars Peder Nagel for the 2004-05 campaign. The duo gives Bakersfield 13 players under contract.
Mirasty, 22, played his rookie season with Bakersfield in 2003-04, making an indelible impression upon the fans and the league. Far from the biggest player on the ice at 5'10", 215 pounds, Mirasty took on opponents of all sizes and battled his way to the league lead in major penalties with 32. He finished second overall and first among rookies with 358 penalty minutes, establishing a new Condors single season record. "Nasty" Mirasty added five assists in 56 games on the season. Prior to joining the Condors this season, he will attend training camp with the Norfolk (Va.) Admirals in the American Hockey League. Norfolk is the primary affiliate of the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks and opens their training camp on September 30th.
Nagel, 23, has played his entire four-year professional career in his native Norway. Last season with the IF Frisk Asker Tigers he recorded 14g-17a-31pts and 75 penalty minutes in 40 games. He has represented his homeland in the World Championships both of the last two years and also played for Team Norway in three World Junior Championships. The Oslo native stands at 6'4", 205 pounds and can play both center and left wing. He will attend training camp this season with the Los Angeles Kings AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs.
"We need some toughness and Jon provided that last year," said Head Coach Marty Raymond. "We feel like Mr. Mirasty can be a big part of this hockey team. And I was very impressed by Lars' play at the World Championship. He's a big man who can skate and he plays with a lot of toughness. Both of these guys could one day play at the next level."
Stats for Mirasty and Nagel are listed below. The Condors now have 13 players under contract with these two joining defensemen David Kudelka, Ryan Gillis, Ryan Coole, Guy Dupuis and Luis Tremblay and forwards Paul Rosebush, Mike Hofstrand, Brett Lutes, Martin Streit, and Todd Alexander and goaltender Sean Fields. The 2004-05 Bakersfield Condors season opens in 60 days at home on October 22nd against the expansion Victoria Salmon Kings. Ticket packages are on sale now for as low as $48.
