IceGators Acquire Ortmeyer
August 24, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â Louisiana IceGators Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Todd Gordon today announced the acquisition of Defenseman Jake Ortmeyer from the Wheeling Nailers in exchange for Center Kenny Corupe.
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Ortmeyer had a breakout season with the Nailers in 2003-04. The 26 year-old defenseman had career highs in goals (12) assists (22) and points (34). Ortmeyer had an outstanding plus/minus rating of +36, the best on his team, tops among ECHL defenseman and second in the entire league.
"Jake Ortmeyer is a big, solid defenseman who will add stability to our blue line," said Gordon. " Anytime a defenseman can be +36 for a season shows Ortmeyer knows how to take care of his own end."
At 6'3 210 pounds, Ortmeyer is expected to be a physical force on the IceGators D-corp. Ortmeyer played junior hockey for his hometown Omaha Lancers of the USHL before playing four years of college hockey at Miami University (Ohio). This will be his 3rd year as a professional, playing the majority of his first season with Fort Wayne of the UHL. Jake's younger brother Jed, is currently a Right Wing for the New York Rangers.
Season Ticket, Flex Plans, and IcePack ticket vouchers are on sale now for the IceGators 10th anniversary season. For more information call the IceGators office at (337) 234-4423.
