
The Pelicans sneak by El Paso 10-9

The Pensacola Pelicans snapped a seven-game losing streak, as they snuck past the El Paso Diablos 10-9 on Tuesday night from Cohen Stadium.
Pensacola got out to an early lead in the first inning. Cesar Aranguren plated Francisco Leandro on an RBI single for the 1-0 lead.
El Paso tied it up in the bottom of the first. Walter Olmstead had a sacrifice fly RBI, knotting up the score at 1-1.
The Pelicans had a big second inning. Pensacola scored four runs on four base hits against Adam Blackley, taking a 5-1 advantage.
El Paso responded right away in the bottom of the second inning. J.D Reininger hammered a two-run homer to left field, cutting the margin to 5-3.
Pensacola put another run together in the fourth inning. Francisco Leandro had a run-scoring single, making it a 6-3 lead.
El Paso kept the back and forth battle going. They scored two in the bottom of the fourth on RBI's from Stantrel Smith and Bryan Cooksey, making it a 6-5 game.
The Pelicans scored three unanswered runs over the fifth and sixth innings. Cesar Aranguren smoked a line-drive to right field which bounced past Stantrel Smith, and led to an inside the park home run, the first of the season against El Paso. Pensacola had a 9-5 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
El Paso erupted in the bottom of the sixth. Stantrel Smith rocketed a three-run homer just inside the left field foul pole, cutting the deficit to 9-8.
The Pelicans continued pouring on the offense. They plated another run in the top of the seventh, on an Arden McWilliams bunt single. Pensacola held a 10-8 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
El Paso continued to stay in the contest. They pieced together another run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Alex Derhak and J.D Reininger led off the frame with back-to-back walks against Donny Langdon. Derhak scored on a ground out off the bat of Bryan Cooksey. Dustin Cameron came in from the bullpen and retired Kory Drew for the final out of the inning. The Diablos trailed 10-9 heading into the ninth.
Dustin Cameron shut the door on the Diablos in the ninth inning. He walked the lead off hitter Jorge Alvarez and allowed Walter Olmstead to reach on a 3-6 fielder's choice. Olmstead moved to second on a ground out from Matt Kent, putting the tieing run into scoring position. However, Cameron induced Bryon Smith into a fly out to center field to end the game.
John Webb (4-3) picks up the victory. He threw five and a third innings, allowing seven earned runs off of 10 hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Adam Blackley (2-5) takes the loss. He threw five innings allowing seven earned runs off of nine hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
Dustin Cameron threw a scoreless inning and a third for his 11th save of the season.
The Diablos will close out their three game series against the Pelicans on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM. David Whigham for the Diablos will match up against Dane De Valk for the Pelicans. It will be Military Appreciation Night at Cohen Stadium, all military personnel get in for free with valid ID. Super Cuts will be giving out four dollar hair cuts on the concourse!
