Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
The Moose Jaw Warriors and the Mosaic Company are pleased to continue their partnership to support the "Growing Tomorrow's Minds Child Nutrition Program" at Hunger in Moose Jaw.
The Mosaic Company, Hunger in Moose Jaw, and the Warriors would like to congratulate and welcome rookie Brayden Point as the new champion of the "Growing Tomorrow's Minds Nutrition Program". Following in the footsteps of previous champion, Quinton Howden, Brayden will be joining the staff of Hunger in Moose Jaw throughout the year; helping pack healthy lunches for children in Moose Jaw each visit.
"I'm really happy to be doing this-- the first day there was pretty fun, the staff are great people and I'm looking forward to the next time I visit," said Point. "It's really tough to hear about children in Moose Jaw going hungry, any way that I can help I am willing to do it ."
Mosaic is committed to growing the food the world needs, and are committed to ending hunger in our community by helping to provide over 300 lunches every school day to children who need them. "The partnership (with the Warriors and The Mosaic Company) started four years ago, they came to us and said could we do this for you," said Hunger in Moose Jaw Executive Director Carol Acton. "It's just been amazing; over the last three years they've given us in nearly$100,000, which has made a world of difference for the child nutrition program."
Not only is Mosaic a funding partner, recently their employees took a hands on approach to creating change in their community. After noticing the conditions at Hunger in Moose Jaw's aging building, Mosaic Company's employees (and Moose Jaw residents) Rob Bonneau and Ed Konihowski took it upon themselves to make the facility safer and more suitable for their employees and clients.
"In the spring, Mosaic employees came here to have a look around and see what hunger was all about. They looked around the building and saw that some repairs needed to be done," said Acton. "They made a list and then came back-- they've been working here since about August 20th so the people we serve and our staff are safe in this building."
With help from the Moose Jaw business community, Mosaic employees lent their time and skill to coordinate with local contractors and businesses to update the electrical wiring in the building, install new interior, exterior, and safety lighting, remodel the front entrance, pour new concrete sidewalks where volunteers pick up lunches for delivery each day, complete much needed bathroom renovations, fix major flooring issues, repair foundation, weather seal the windows and doors, install new locks and deadbolts, build shelving and a picnic table as well as make improvements to playground areas for the Head start Pre-School Children. All projects used donated materials from local businesses or were completed with funds from Mosaic.
"We are very proud of the work our Belle Plaine employees have undertaken at Hunger in Moose Jaw. Mosaic prides itself on not only funding organizations like Hunger in Moose Jaw, but dedicating our time and skills to making a lasting difference in our community," said Director of Public Affairs, Brad DeLorey.
