Fort Wayne, IN - The Kane County Cougars (26-11) scored their runs in three innings to defeat the Ft. Wayne Wizards (21-15) on Sunday afternoon, 9-3. The win for the Cougars gives them a 2-1 series lead with the finale tomorrow night.

Cristian Gonzalez (4-0), who is now the fifth starter in the rotation (Chris Mowday sent to Extended Spring Training), pitched a season high 6.1 innings to take the win. He allowed only two runs (one earned) on six hits and fanned two. Luke Steidlmayer (0-4) was tagged for five runs on five hits in suffering the loss for Ft. Wayne.

Kirk Nordness provided the knockout punch with two outs in the fifth inning. With the Cougars leading, 5-1, Nordness delivered a three-run double with two outs off Byran Edwards, extending the lead to seven. The next batter, Marcus McBeth ended an 0-for-10 drought with a runs scoring single to cap off the scoring.

John Baker returned to the lineup after having yesterday off, and was 3-for-4 (RBI) including his team leading 11th double. Brant Colamarino extended his hitting streak to four games, finishing the afternoon, 2-for-4 and scored three times. Chris Shank pitched an inning and two-thirds scoreless in relief of Gonzalez; Brigmer Leon pitched the ninth and allowed a run on one hit.

The Cougars began the scoring fest with three runs in the fourth inning of Steidlmayer. Baker's RBI single put the Cougars on the board, Nelson Cruz and Jason Basil each drove in runs for Kane County. Kane County scored twice in the fifth inning, Francis Gomez scored on a wild pitch and Cruz drove in his league leading 33rd RBI on a ground out.

The Cougars and the Wizards wrap up their four game series tomorrow night from Memorial Stadium - game time is 6:00 PM. Drew Dickinson LHP (4-1, 2..39) takes the mound for the Kane County Cougars; Nobuaki Yoshida LHP (0-1, 3.00) is making a spot start for the Wizards due to Jon Huber being promoted to Lake Elsinore (California League).
