ST. PAUL, MN (September 2, 2013) - Nobody wanted the 2013 season to end as the final game of the season took extra innings to decide, but like their last eight games at Midway Stadium the St. Paul Saints were unable to pull out a win and fell to the Sioux City Explorers 4-3 in 12 innings in front of 4,127 on Monday afternoon. The defeat was the ninth in a row at home for the Saints, breaking the previous high of eight consecutive home losses that occurred in August of 2007.

In the top of the 12th with the score tied at three, Luke Murton singled home what proved to be the decisive run with a two out single off of Saints reliever T.J. Hose. Austin Gallagher raced home with the winning run after previously singling and stealing second base. Murton finished the season on a positive note, going 3-5 with three RBI, a double, and a sacrifice fly.

The Saints fell behind early when Cole Nelson walked back-to-back hitters to begin the second inning. Anthony Kaskadden swiped third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Peter Barrows to give the Explorers a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth the Explorers took a 2-0 lead when Sam Judah led off with a single. Gallagher doubled him to third and a sacrifice fly by Murton scored Judah.

The Saints got some much needed pop in the sixth when Andy Henkemeyer singled and Dan Kaczrowski followed with a two-run homer, his fourth of the season, to tie the game at two. It was the 95th homer hit by the Saints, finishing one shy of the franchise record of 96 set in 1999.

The teams traded runs in the seventh when Gallagher struck out, but reached on a dropped third strike. Murton doubled him home giving the Explorers a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the inning the Saints got a gift from the Explorers. Adam Frost was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Donald Blunt then lined out to shortstop Leugim Barroso, but his throw to first, trying to double off Frost, went over the head of Murton and into the stands allowing Frost to take third. He would score on a two out single by Trevor Hairgrove to tie the game at three.

The Saints finished the 2013 season 47-53, losing their final four games and their final eight home games of the season.
