Kansas City Monarchs News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - In their season finale, the T-Bones scored two runs in the top of the eighth but they couldn't avoid the sweep, as they lost 5-4 against the Wingnuts on Monday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Kansas City took an early lead with two runs in the second when Felix Molina scored Petey Paramore with a sacrifice grounder, and Anthony Davis knocked in Luis Rivera, who reached on a ground-rule double. The T-Bones' other pair of runs came in the eighth inning. Trailing 5-2, the T-Bones pulled to within one when Molina drove in Paramore, and Steve Yoo scored Rivera on a sacrifice to first.

Kansas City starter Ethan Cole worked three innings and allowed one run. Josh Hildebrand (2-3) took the loss with a three-run fourth inning. Kansas City also got pitching performances from Ryan Fennell, Dustin Loggins and Chad Robinson.

Wichita starting pitcher James Giulietti (4-0) pitched five innings and allowed two runs on three hits. Five Wichita pitchers held the T-Bones to four hits - two each by Rivera and Davis. Oddly, only two players, Rivera and Paramore, scored all four of the T-Bones' runs.

The season ends the way it began: with a loss at Wichita. On May 16, Kansas City opened the 2013 campaign with an 8-0 loss at Wichita.

Now, a year after finishing above .500 (51-49), Kansas City in 2013 finished fourth in the American Association's Central Division with a 40-60 record. The T-Bones were second in the American Association in attendance in 2013, averaging 5,420 fans per game at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
