RailCats Drop Regular Season Finale

Gary, IN - The RailCats dropped their regular season, 4-1, to the El Paso Diablos on Monday afternoon. El Paso finished their season with a record of 39-61 while the RailCats complete their regular season schedule at 58-41.
El Paso scored first for the third straight game in the series. In the top of the third, Maikol Gonzalez drew a one out walk against RailCats starter Morgan Coombs and scored on a triple by Oscar Mesa. Wellington Dotel followed with a groundout to second to bring in Mesa for a 2-0 El Paso advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth, Nick Liles worked a 10-pitch at-bat to leadoff the inning with a single. Liles then stole second and scored on Drew Martinez's single to right center to cut it to 2-1.
Morgan Coombs went six innings for the RailCats in his final start before post-season play. He allowed two runs on three hits and two walks. He struck out five and threw 88 pitch
El Paso added a pair of unearned runs in the top of the eighth. Maikol Gonzalez reached on an error at third by Reid Fronk and ended up on second. Oscar Mesa singled home Gonzalez to make it 3-1.
Wellington Dotel followed with a single through the middle to put runners on first and second against RailCats reliever Matt Jernstad. After a double steal, Dotel scored on a groundout by Anthony D'Alfonso to take a 4-1 lead for El Paso.
The RailCats mustered just one hit and a pair of walks after the seventh inning against the El Paso bullpen.
Diablos starter Reyes Dorado earned his fourth win of the season with a six-inning effort. He allowed one run on six hits and a pair of walks.
For the second time this season, the RailCats batting order featured neither Mike Massaro nor Adam Klein as the RailCats rested their starting corner outfielders in preparation for their playoff series with Fargo-Moorhead. Brian Kolb also had the day off.
The RailCats completed their regular season and will begin a five-game series with Fargo-Moorhead on Wednesday in Fargo, ND. First pitch is scheduled for 7:02 p.m. on Wednesday night. Listen live to the RailCats playoff run on 89.1 FM The LakeShore and online at RailCatsBaseball.com.
