Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that goaltender Cristopher Nilstorp has created Torp's Tots, a new charitable program to benefit children diagnosed with serious illnesses.
The Stars' goaltender has personally purchased four 24-game partial season ticket plans and will donate four tickets to participating children and their families for 24 of the club's 33 remaining regular season home games. The Malm̮̦, Sweden native, who is currently in his second season with Texas, approached team officials just after the 2013-14 season began and proposed the formation of the program.
"First of all, it's very painful for me to see any children dealing with a serious illness," said Nilstorp. "I think if we can get some of these kids to our games and give them some good experiences, maybe put some smiles on their faces, it will mean a lot for me and my teammates. I had a friend whose little brother died at an early age. That has given me energy and I hope we can give these kids some energy to continue to fight for their health."
The three main recipients will be children and their families who are associated with Muscular Dystrophy Association, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Austin & Central Texas and R.O.C.K., Ride On Center for Kids. Additional recipients may include children from other local hospitals and organizations that treat serious illnesses. The first Torp's Tots game will be this Friday, November 8th as Texas hosts the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Center.
The Stars are back home for Stars & Stripes Military Appreciation Weekend presented by Sport Clips, facing the Milwaukee Admirals at Cedar Park Center on Friday, November 8th at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 9th at 7:00 p.m. Friday's game is a $3 Draft Beer & $4 Robert Mondavi Private Selection Wine Night and ABC Home & Commercial Services will be giving out a reusable shopping tote. Pro-rated full and partial 2013-14 Texas Stars Season Tickets are on sale now. For more information on Texas Stars season tickets call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit www.TexasStarsHockey.com.
