Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas- It took 10 rounds in a shootout for a decision to be made with a matchup against the Americans, but it was Allen who came out on top 5-4 earning the Brahmas a point in the standings on the road.

A fresh slate and clean sheet of ice was in order for the Brahmas as they faced their cross town rival Saturday evening, and after 20 minutes of play the purple and black looked to be given just that. The Brahmas were able to get on the boards midway in the period when Chad Woollard charged in on Adrien Lemay's goal and found the back of the net from a perfect setup by Jason Deitsch.

Texas' Tyler Allen was called for a hooking call late in the period, but the Brahmas continued to put the pressure on up front leading to a shorthanded goal when Greg Hogeboom had a one on one breakaway seven ticks remaining in the period and converted for the 2-0 lead. Wayne Savage faced 17 shots in the first period in net for Texas.

The first shot of the second beat Savage coming off Jarrett Lukin's stick to tighten the game to a 2-1 Texas lead. Defensive misreads by Texas a minute later gave way to a 2-2 tie as Bruce Graham tied the game for Allen planted in the crease. At the 15:30 marker in the middle frame, a cross ice pass from Jesse Dudas found Jeff Hazelwood as he charged in from the faceoff circle to Lemay's right to regain the lead. Shortly following the faceoff David Nimmo directed a puck in midair and past Savage for the tie.

An hooking penalty by Woollard gave Allen the man advantage in the third and ultimately their first lead in the game with a goal from David Strathman who streaked in and faked out Savage. But before the goal announcement could be heard in the building Jason Krischuk fired a shot from the point :48 seconds later for his first goal of the season and the 4-4 tie.

At the end of regulation and overtime the Brahmas were outshot 57-36 leading to the final death shootout. The teams went nine rounds with a 3-3 tie in the shootout, but it was the tenth round where Allen's Justin DaCosta beat Savage for the 5-4 final.

The Brahmas host their home opener next weekend, Friday, October 22 when the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees come to the NYTEX Sports Centre for a 7:30 pm start. The first 1000 fans in attendance will receive Brahmas rally towels. On Saturday, Texas hosts their I-20 rival, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Magnet Schedule Night for a 7:30 pm faceoff.
