MOLINE, IL - Sebastien Thinel scored a shorthanded goal and an even strength goal and added an assist as the Odessa Jackalopes defeated the host Quad City Mallards 4-1 in what was the Mallards' first Central Hockey League game Saturday night.

After Jeff Pierce broke a 1-1 tie from the slot at 1:45 of the second period, Thinel made the lead comfortable for Odessa by first finishing off a 2-on-1 rush with the Jackalopes down a man at 15:09 of the second and then wristing the puck home to make it 4-1 at the 18:34 mark.

Thinel's second goal was enough to bring about the replacement of Mallards starting goaltender Michel Robinson by relief netminder David Brown at the start of the third period.

The Mallards enjoyed a much brighter start to the night. Quad City took the lead just nine seconds into the game when the Mallards broke 2-on-1 and Patrick Levesque snapped in the Flock's first CHL goal from the left wing circle.

The Jackalopes would respond while on the power play at 7:18 of the first when Mike Ramsey's shot from the blue line evened the score and triggered Odessa's run of four unanswered goals.

The Mallards will see action on the road next Friday in Dayton and next Saturday in Evansville before returning home a week from tomorrow for a rematch with the IceMen at 4:05 p.m. Tickets for the October 24 game and all remaining Mallards regular season games are available in person at the i wireless Center box office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000.
