Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, Texas - It took six shooters but the Laredo Bucks held off the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees for a 4-3 shootout victory Saturday night at State Farm Arena. The Bees were continuously playing catch-up after the Bucks took a 2-1 lead in the second period.
The Bees scored late in the third period to force overtime. Dan Gendur scored his first goal as a Bee after Pier Pelletier misplayed a puck that Tyler Burton dug out and fed to Gender in the slot. After the final horn the game went to a shootout.
In the shootout the Killer Bees scored twice with goals by Tyler Burton and Darcy Campbell before the Buck's Ryan Lehr scored the winning goal.
This marks the first time Laredo has defeated RGV in a shootout in over 90 contests. Previously the Bees were 3-0 against Laredo in shootout games.
The Bees stuck first at the 18:51 mark of the first frame when Brett Wilson forced a backhand shot past Pier Pelletier with helpers from Darcy Campbell and Dan Gendur. Gendur was also the only Killer Bee to have a multi-point game for the Bees.
The Bucks tied things up early on the ensuing period off of a Daniel Koger goal and took the lead 2-1 shortly thereafter when Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel took advantage of a power play opportunity at the 6:05 mark of the second period. Tomas Klempa responded with Zak McClellan and Sean Muncy on the assist to put the game at 2-2.
After Laredo's Daniel Koger's scored on a power play goal to put the Bucks up 3-2, Pelletier was paced by Dan Gendur who found the equalizer in the 6:42 minute of the third period that sent the contest into overtime.
Next the Bees will travel to North Richland Hills to face the Texas Brahmas on October 22 at the NYTEX Sports Center for its first-of-five straight games on the road. You can hear all the action on Real Country 102.1 FM KBUC with the pre-game show starting 15 minutes before each game.
