PrairieThunder Defeats Missouri 2-1 in Shootout on Saturday Night

October 16, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release

The Bloomington PrairieThunder started off the 2010-2011 Central Hockey League season on the right note by defeating the Missouri Mavericks 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday night in Independence, Missouri. The PrairieThunder now prepares for our home opening weekend, October 22nd & 23rd at U.S. Cellular Coliseum against new CHL opponents, the Odessa Jackalopes and Tulsa Oilers.

Bloomington's Rick Varone (pronounced Va-rone-ee) scored the first goal of the season at 5:10 of the first period. The game remained that way until 4:45 of the third period when Missouri's Tab (don't call me Ring) Lardner tied the game. After a scoreless overtime, Varone scored again for the PrairieThunder in the shootout along with John Snowden while only Ray DiLauro could light the lamp for Missouri giving Bloomington their first CHL victory.

PrairieThunder goaltender Marco Emond was named the game's 1st Star stopping 27 of 28 shots on goal including four of five in the shootout.
