Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - A four-goal second period proved to be the difference for the host Colorado Eagles as the Arizona Sundogs dropped their first contest of the season, 5-3, Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado.

Already leading by one after a Dylan Stanley tally late in the first period, Aaron Schneekloth opened scoring in the second to stretch Colorado's lead to two 2:45 into the middle frame, shoveling a backhand past Bobby Jarosz from between the circles after Daymen Rycroft found the defenseman trailing the play.

Kip Workman converted on a Kevin Ulanski setup feed in the slot just 12 seconds later to build a 3-0 cushion for Colorado less than three minutes into the period.

Ulanski collected his second point of the period and first goal of the year at the 5:26 mark, lifting a shot past Jarosz for a commanding 4-0 advantage.

Torren Delforte ended Kyle Jones' shutout bid with a strong individual effort with eight minutes to play in the second, spinning away from an Eagles player in the corner before cutting across the slot and delaying a shot from between the circles past Jones for his first goal of the 2010-11 campaign.

Riley Nelson regained a four-goal lead for Colorado late in the frame after the Eagles successfully killed off a Sundogs power play. Skating across the goal mouth, Nelson redirected a Kyle Peto shot into the back of the net for his third point on the night.

Stanley gave his club a 1-0 lead with 3:56 to play in the opening period, slapping a rebound at the top of the goal crease past Jarosz after the rookie goaltender made the initial save on a Jason Beatty shot through traffic.

Billy Bezeau cut Colorado's lead to three with a tough angle shot from the near boards at 12:41 of the third period from Jason Visser and Mark Kolanos.

Jason Williams pulled Arizona back to within two, collecting Arizona's first power-play goal of the season with 1:40 remaining in regulation. With his team skating 6-on-4 as Jarosz was pulled from the ice in place of an extra attacker, Williams beat Jones to earn his second goal and fifth point on the year.

The Sundogs outshot the Eagles, 35-28, in the contest. Jones made 32 saves on the night to record Colorado's first win of the season while Jarosz turned aside 23 shots in the loss.

Arizona finished 1-for-4 with the man advantage and held the Eagles scoreless on seven power play opportunities. Visser finished with two assists and a plus-2 rating in the loss.

Sundogs goaltender Doug Groenestege was once again held out of the lineup due to immigration issues but is expected back in the lineup before the team's home opener against the Fort Wayne Komets on Friday, Oct. 22 at Tim's Toyota Center. Game time is set for 7:05pm.

Single game tickets start at just $12 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.GetTix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office and the Guest Services kiosk inside Prescott Gateway Mall.
