Bossier-Shreveport Holds Off RiverKings For Second Straight Win

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Shane Hart's goal nearly seven minutes into the final period of play lifted the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs to a weekend sweep of the Mississippi RiverKings, this time by a score of 2-1 before 5,347 on opening night for the RiverKings at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.

Hart's tally completed a comeback which started in the second period to answer RiverKings defenseman Andrew Lackner's first goal of the year, a goal that came as the first period was ending. Lackner's blast from inside the blue liner got past Bossier-Shreveport goaltender Jeff Harvey at the 20:00 minunte mark of the initial frame, assisted by Derek Landmesser and Matt Miller. The power play goal gave the RiverKings a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Bossier-Shreveport tied the game on a tip-in by Brett Smith at the 14:06 mark of the second period, converting a shot by Joe Blaznek. Stephen Crampton also assisted on the Mudbugs' goal to even the contest at 1-1 after two periods, setting up Hart's heroics in the final session for the game winner.

For the contest, Mississippi outshot the Mudbugs 33-27 and ended 1-for-6 on the power play. After scoring five power play tallies the night before in Louisiana, the 'Bugs were held scoreless in eight power play chances in Saturday night's contest. Mississippi took 23 minutes of penalty time to Bossier-Shreveport's 19.

Harvey mades 32 saves in posting the victory. Mississippi net minder Larry Sterling stopped 25 of 27 Bossier-Shreveport shots on goal.

With the win, Bossier-Shreveport moved to 2-0-0 in the Central Hockey League's Berry Conference standings, while Mississippi dropped to 0-2-0.

Tomorrow, a RiverKings Player Meet and Greet will take place at the North Creek Apartments in Southaven, off Stateline Road, from 2-4 PM. The event is hosted by The RiverKings Fan Club.

Next up on the ice for the RiverKings, the new Evansville IceMen come in for their first-ever visit to the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven on Friday night, followed by a meeting with the Missouri Mavericks on Saturday night, October 23rd. Safehaven Ministries is the non-profit MVP for Friday's game, and there will be a post-game skate after Saturday night's contest.
