Team Manager Peter Nowak to Attend "Match of Stars" Charity Event in Poland

Chester Pa. (May 9, 2011) - Philadelphia Union Team Manager Peter Nowak will travel to Poland this week to play in a renowned charity event, "Match of Stars," between former Polish internationals and retired "Stars of Europe." Nowak will suit up for the "Stars of Europe" squad. The match, kicking off at 5:30 p.m. local time (9:30 a.m. EST) on Wednesday, May 11, will be played at Stadion Miejski in the city of Poznań.

Nowak will miss Philadelphia Union's home match against the LA Galaxy on Wednesday. Coach John Hackworth will serve as head coach for the 7:30 p.m. contest.

"Peter's participation in this prestigious charity match is not only important to him but for our club," said CEO & Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz. "It's a tremendous honor for him to be invited to represent his country along with some of the world's all-time greats. As a side benefit, the Union brand will gain valuable international exposure through his presence."

The charity match is organized by the Polish Association of Former Football Players, a member of the European Former Football Players Associations (EFPA). EFPA players include legends such as Hristo Stoichkov, Christian Karembeu, Emilio Butragueño, Michael Reiziger, Lothar Matthäus, Steve McManaman, Enzo Scifo, Paulo Sousa and Davor Šuker, among others.

Nowak will return from Poland on Thursday, May 12, in time for Philadelphia's road match against FC Dallas on Saturday.
