Moose Jaw, SK - Lynden Lakovic scored twice as Team Black picked up a 5-2 win over Team White in the Moose Jaw Warriors' Intrasquad Game on Sunday afternoon to close out training camp.
A competitive training camp finished with a competitive, back-and-forth game on Sunday.
"That's a testament to the players returning," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said. "We can we can talk about it as coaches all we want, but it's the players that drive the culture around here and the effort to compete, doing things with real purpose and the ownership that the players take, that starts with our veteran guys."
The Warriors welcomed in 75 players for this year's camp, which opened on Wednesday with fitness testing. There were 45 players that suited up in Sunday's Intrasquad Game to finish camp.
Lakovic, who's entering his second season with the Warriors, said there was a lot of talent on the ice.
"I felt like the camp got better as we went on, players started to mix with certain players and we definitely got a really good team here," he said. "The team looks great and I think we're bound for a good season."
Sunday's Intrasquad Game opened with a scoreless first period as the team's matched each other with 14 shots each.
Team Black took over early in the second period when Noah Degenstein and Lakovic scored only 24 seconds apart.
Six minutes later, Atley Calvert scored for Team White to make it a 2-1 game after two.
Team Black would pull away in the third, picking up a goal from Jagger Firkus with 11:05 gone in the frame to make it 3-1.
Lakovic added his second of the game into an empty net with 2:30 left to play, but Ben Riche answered right back for Team White only 19 seconds later to make it a two-goal game again.
Landen McFadden sealed the win for Team Black with another empty net goal with 1:08 to play.
Dimitri Fortin and Joshua Banini combined for the win in goal for Team Black. Fortin made 23 saves, while Banini stopped 16 of 17 shots.
