Medicine Hat, AB - Medicine Hat Tigers Training Camp has come to a close following this weekend's match-ups between Team Black & Orange.
Both clubs secured wins on Friday with Black winning 5-4 in a shootout while Orange responded Saturday night with a 6-3 victory.
Sunday's final tilt between Orange & Black it would see Black taking the rubber match 8-1.
In the first period it was Milan Mrsic opened the scoring on Sunday morning with a breakaway goal beating Braxton Becker to give Orange the 1-0 lead. But Black would follow as Brett Calhoon would equalize the first frame for his first goal of the weekend to make it 1-1.
Black would get the advantage once more as Schaffer Gordon-Carroll would re-direct a Josh Van Mulligen point shot giving Black a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Black would get a two goal lead thanks to Cru Hanas and his first goal of the weekend to make it 3-1.
Black would add to their leads thanks to a Tyler MacKenzie penalty shot to make 4-1, followed by Hunter St. Martin's work on a net front scramble to push the Black lead to 5-1.
Minutes later Shane Smith & Milan Mrsic would add to their lead to make it 7-1. Heading to the 3rd.
The final frame would see both goaltenders on the 2023-2024 roster Beckett Langkow & Evan May go toe to toe and both held down the fort until late in the third period when Gavin McKenna would solve May to make it 8-1 Black.
The final horn sounded with Black taking the rubber match 8-1 and closing out Training Camp 2023.
The Tigers open the pre-season Tuesday, September 5 on the road in Lethbridge, before returning home Saturday, September 9 against the Hurricanes.
Medicine Hat wraps up the pre-season with a home at home series with the Swift Current Broncos, starting home Friday, September 15, before finishing things out on Saturday, September 16.
Pre-season home game tickets are available at the Tigers Office, tickets are $20 and the office is open from 9 AM to 5 PM on weekdays.
The Tigers open the 2023-2024 WHL Regular Season Friday, September 22.
