Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, are pleased to announce that goaltender Taylor Gauthier has been named Goalie of the Week by the WHL for the week of March 14-20.
This is Gauthier's third time earning Goalie of the Week honors since debuting with the Winterhawks in January.
Gauthier, 20, went 2-0-0-0 with a 0.50 GAA and .981% save percentage as he and the Hawks knocked off their rival Seattle on back-to-back nights. On Saturday, Gauthier stopped 33 of 34 shots - conceding only on a penalty shot awarded to the Thunderbirds - as Portland took a fourth consecutive road win over Seattle. Facing his second start in as many nights on Sunday, Gauthier turned aside all 20 Seattle shots in a 3-0 Portland win at Veterans Memorial Coliseum to mark his fourth shutout with the Winterhawks.
Gauthier's pair of wins boosted his record to 18-3-0-0 with Portland, and 25-8-0-0 overall this season. The Calgary, Alta. native leads all WHL netminders with a .935 save percentage and ranks third with a 2.12 GAA on the year. Furthermore, since making his Winterhawks debut on Jan. 8, Gauthier leads all goaltenders in both GAA and save percentage with a 1.74 and .943% in the respective categories, and his four shutouts are tied with Winnipeg's Daniel Hauser for the league lead in that statistic.
