
Olen Zellweger Named WHL Player of the Week

EVERETT, Wash. - Everett Silvertips defenseman Olen Zellweger has been named the Western Hockey League Player of the Week for the week ending Mar. 20.
Zellweger collected eight assists over the course of four games in the week, five of them primaries. Three assists came on the Silvertips' powerplay. He finished the weekend by racking up three consecutive multi-point performances on three straight nights. He generated 18 shots on goal over the four games, while finishing as a +4 defensively.
"Olen is an elite defenseman that drives our offense every night with his skating and creativity," commented Silvertips head coach and general manager Dennis Williams. "He's by far one of the hardest, if not the hardest worker away from the rink and I feel he has been rewarded on the ice this year with his play."
Zellweger, selected by the Anaheim Ducks 34th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, now has points in six of his last seven appearances. His 68 points in 48 games leads all WHL defenseman, with his 55 assists ranking second among all WHL skaters. He also stands fifth in the league in powerplay assists (25) and third in plus-minus (43). Zellweger has accumulated 21 multi-point performances this season. He has recorded points in 37 of his 48 games played.
The Everett Silvertips currently sit atop the Western Conference with a 41-10-3-5 record. With 90 points, they rank third overall in the Western Hockey League behind only the Edmonton Oil Kings (93 points) and Winnipeg Ice (91 points). The Silvertips play a pair of home games this Friday and Saturday at Angel of the Winds Arena, hosting the Spokane Chiefs and Portland Winterhawks respectively.
