Hickory Crawdads News Release

Hickory, NC - The Crawdads got their second consecutive win on Saturday night, hitting four homeruns off of the Bowling Green Hot Rods in route to a 8-5 victory.

Avery Weems didn't allow a baserunner through his first three innings of work on the mound for the 'Dads before giving up a solo homerun to lead off the fourth inning. Weems had been perfect across his last eight innings, counting back to a flawless five inning start last weekend in Greenville. Bowling Green got another run across in the inning to take a 2-0 lead.

The 'Dads didn't trail for long as they tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth. Trey Hair singled to center and Kellen Strahm crushed an opposite field homerun to even the score.

The offense kept the momentum going into the fifth inning, scoring two more to take a 4-2 advantage. Jose Acosta singled to left and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jake Guenther. Isaias Quiroz flied out to center but Acosta was able to tag up and take third. With Jonathan Ornelas at the plate, the Hot Rods pitcher threw a wild pitch that allowed Acosta to dash home to put the 'Dads ahead. Ornelas sent the next pitch over the left field wall, his second homerun of the year.

Bowling Green hit their third homerun of the night off Weems with one out in the sixth to make the score 4-3, with Crawdads still ahead.

The Crawdads pushed back in the home half of the sixth with two more runs. Strahm was hit by a pitch and got himself into scoring position with his third steal of the night. The stolen base ultimately ended up not mattering as Miguel Aparicio hit a two-run homerun to right, giving the 'Dads a three-run lead.

Seth Nordlin took over for Weems in the seventh. He allowed one run in the seventh on the Hot Rod's fourth homer of the night.

The Crawdads got two runs across in the seventh, their fourth consecutive inning to do so. Guenther led off with a double off the right field wall. Ornelas sent his second homerun of the night to right field to bring the score 8-4.

In the top of the eighth, the Hot Rods cut into the 'Dads lead with another run but Nordlin held them off to pick up his second save of the season.

The series against the Hot Rods will wrap up tomorrow afternoon at 3pm. It will be Women in Sports Day at the Frans and the first 100 women to show a picture of them playing a sport, attending a game, or working in sports will get a free ticket to the game thanks to Academy Sports & Outdoors. It is also Church Bulletin Sunday presented by Catawba Shoe Store. Fans can bring a church bulletin for a discounted $6 ticket. The 'Dads will then donate $4 back to that bulletin's respective church. Little league members can also stop by a local Sheetz for a free ticket to the game as part of Little League Sunday.
