Greenville Drive News Release
Greensboro, N.C. - The Grasshoppers blasted four homers while holding the Drive offense to just four hits for the second-straight night enroute to a series-clinching 9-4 win Saturday night at First National Bank Field.
Tyler Dearden and Wil Dalton each hit solo homers to lead the team offensively tonight. The only other Drive hitter to collect a hit was Tyreque Reed, who registered two singles. Nick Sogard and Dom D'Allessandro compiled an RBI each.
Jay Groome started for Greenville and took the loss after tossing 6.0 innings. He allowed four runs on five hits, three homers and one walk with eight strikeouts. It is the second-straight start he fanned eight batters, which ties a career high.
Carmen Mlodzinski earned the win, hurling 6.0 innings of one run ball with nine punchouts.
Greensboro hopped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first behind solo home runs by Nick Gonzalez and Liover Peguero.
The Drive cut the home team's lead in half, 2-1, on a home run of their own by Dalton.
After three scoreless innings, the Grasshoppers plated two runs in the sixth inning. Peguero blasted his second home run of the day, a two-run shot, to make the score 4-1.
Another home run, this time off the bat of Dearden, brought the contest to a 4-2 ledger.
However, Greensboro's lead grew again by two runs in the seventh on a Grant Koch RBI double and a Gonzalez RBI groundout, bringing the score to 6-2.
The Grasshoppers weren't done yet as they added three more runs in the eighth frame on a three-run clout by Matthew Frazier.
Greenville didn't go quietly as they scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning. Dearden and Reed both drew walks to start the frame. After a strikeout, Dalton walked to load the bases. Sogard then collected an RBI on a groundout. The next batter, Dom D'Allessandro, hit a sac fly to make the score 9-4.
The series finale is set for 2:00 pm Sunday at First National Bank Field. The Drive are scheduled to throw Brian Van Belle while the Grasshoppers are slated to throw JC Flowers.
