Tapia Powers Albuquerque to 9-4 Win

April 8, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Raimel Tapia's early season power surge continued Saturday night when he belted two home runs and produced five RBI, lifting the Isotopes (2-1) to a 9-4 victory over Salt Lake (1-2) at Smith's Ballpark.

The multi-homer game for Tapia was the first of his eight-year professional career. The 24-year-old put Albuquerque ahead for good in the seventh inning with a two-run blast, giving the Isotopes a 4-2 lead. Tapia's second long ball of the evening came in the very next inning when he belted a three-run shot to right. The outfielder now has three home runs this year, already one shy of his season total from 2017.

The Isotopes compiled 13 hits Saturday with Tapia and Tom Murphy leading the way with three hits apiece. Tapia was not the only player to hit a home run, as Anthony Bemboom connected on his first long ball in the ninth inning.

David Holman earned the win on the mound in his Triple-A debut. Holman pitched 3.0 innings of relief, allowing one unearned run and two hits. Starting pitcher Harrison Musgrave lasted 1.0 inning before a one hour and 39 minute rain delay forced him from the game.

The Isotopes will go for their third straight win Sunday afternoon with lefty Sam Howard scheduled to take the mound. Salt Lake has not announced a starting pitcher for the contest. First pitch from Smith's Ballpark will be at 1:05 p.m.
