Isotopes Bats Remain Hot, Defeat Bees 11-4
April 8, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Eight of nine Isotopes (3-1) starters came away with a hit in Sunday afternoon's contest in Salt Lake, defeating the Bees (1-3), 11-4, from Smith's Ballpark. After dropping the season opener, the Isotopes have now won three games in a row.
Albuquerque catcher Tom Murphy and infielder Anthony Phillips led the way for the Isotopes. Murphy finished the day 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Though only four games into the season, the 27-year-old boasts a 1.747 OPS.
Phillips also connected on a home run in his first action as an Isotope. The long ball was Phillips' first career Triple-A bomb. The 27-year-old from South Africa finished the day 3-for-5 with the aforementioned home run, a double and three RBI.
On the mound, Sam Howard had a solid 2018 debut. The southpaw allowed just two runs over his 5.0 innings of work. Howard did not surrender a walk and struck out four, earning the win.
In his second rehab outing with the Isotopes, Rockies reliever Carlos Estevez recorded two strikeouts but did surrender a solo home run.
The Isotopes and Bees wrap up their series Monday afternoon in Salt Lake. Albuquerque manager Glenallen Hill will turn to Chris Jensen, who will be making his Isotopes debut. First pitch from Smith's Ballpark is set for 12:05 p.m.
