Fresno Grizzlies News Release

The Fresno Grizzlies took advantage of 10 Reno Aces walks on Sunday afternoon, evening their record at 2-2 on this season-opening five-game road trip. In the 9-4 win, Kyle Tucker (6-for-17, HR, 3 RBI) and Jack Mayfield (6-for-16, 2 HR, 7 RBI) continued to hit safely in each game thus far in 2018. Six different Grizzlies drove in a run in the victory.

The Grizzlies bit first with a pair of base hits in the second; A.J. Reed (2-for-3) and Garrett Stubbs (2-for-4) singled, with Stubbs later scoring on a Jon Kemmer RBI groundout. The Aces struck back in the home half of the inning, when Cody Decker drilled a two-run homer to left field for a 2-1 lead.

Reno added another run in the third; Socrates Brito, Yasmany Tomas and Michael Perez (RBI) strung together consecutive singles.

Trailing 3-1 in the fifth, Reno pitchers issued five consecutive walks, forcing in a pair of runs to tie the game. Fresno went in front on a Stubbs sac fly to left for the Grizzlies second lead of the game, 4-3. The three-run inning for Fresno came without a base hit.

Grizz starter Rogelio Armenteros would not factor into the decision, but did strike out six batters in four and a third innings, before exiting after 90 pitches and three (earned) runs. Reno reliever Jared Miller (0-1) took the loss by walking three in a row in the fifth, which resulted in the winning run. Jacob Dorris (1-0) earned the win out of the Fresno bullpen, tossing 1.2 scoreless, hitless innings in relief of Armenteros, with two strikeouts (no walks).

The visitor lead was extended to 7-3 in the sixth. Kemmer led off with a walk, and scored from first on a double to the left field wall by Alejandro Garcia (2-for-5). Garcia scored a batter later on a Tony Kemp (2-for-5) RBI single up the middle; Kemp scored the third run of the inning on a double play ball after advancing to third on a Drew Ferguson single.

It was 8-3 Fresno in the seventh; Stubbs rapped a one out single and also scored all the way from first on a double to the left field gap; this one by Mayfield. Reed collected his second his second RBI of the day in the eighth; Kemp's lead off single eventually scored on a sac-fly to center, after moving over on a pair of walks to Ferguson and Tucker.

The Aces added a run on a double play ball in the home half of the eighth, after Tomas led with a double. That made the score 9-4, which would hold up as the final.

The series finale is scheduled for Monday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at Greater Nevada Field. Probable starting pitchers are LHP Kent Emanuel for Fresno, and RHP Jake Buchanan for Reno, a former Grizz from Fresno's 2015 National Championship squad.
