Tambellini's OT Score Lifts Wolf Pack to First Win

Hartford, CT, October 14, 2015 - Adam Tambellini's first professional goal, a power-play tally at 2:21 of overtime, gave the Hartford Wolf Pack its first win of the season, 4-3 over the Providence Bruins, Wednesday night at the XL Center.

After the Bruins' Austin Czarnik was called for hooking 1:09 into the extra session, Tambellini took a pass from Raphael Diaz and fired a shot from the right-wing side through a screen, and the puck squeezed through Bruin goaltender Zane McIntyre and into the net.

The Wolf Pack struck first 6:17 minutes into a choppy first period, on a goal scored by Travis Oleksuk, with the lone assist going to Tyler Brown.

A holding penalty against Chad Nehring put the Bruins on a power play with 7:30 left in the first, but the Wolf Pack was able to successfully kill the penalty. At the end of the period the Wolf Pack led 1-0, but trailed 16-9 in shots.

Wolf Pack goaltender Magnus Hellberg, who made 34 saves to get his first Wolf Pack win, said, "We have a young team, but I think we have a lot of good looks. People are trying to get to know each other and you can see that they're getting more comfortable out there."

Colby Cave stuck first for the Bruins, scoring an unassisted goal with 14:48 left in the second period.

With 7:04 remaining in the second, Zach Phillips capitalized on a power play for the Bruins, putting them up 2-1.

Within the two last minutes of the period, three goals were scored in a span of 45 seconds, two by the Wolf Pack and one by the Bruins. Brian Gibbons scored first for the Wolf Pack at 18:23, assisted by Brady Skjei and Jayson Megna.

Just 26 seconds thereafter, at 18:49, Frank Vatrano answered for Providence, assisted by Czarnik and Matt Irwin. Only 20 seconds after that, though, Chris McCarthy knotted the score back up at 3-3, assisted by Marek Hrivik.

Despite a power play for each team in the third, neither could score with the advantage. After the high-scoring second period, the teams went scoreless in the third and the game went to overtime, with the Wolf Pack registering five of the OT's six shots, helped by the power play.

"Power plays can make a difference," Wolf Pack coach Ken Gernander said. "Tonight fortunately we got the big power play goal in overtime and I think it's going to help everybody's confidence."
