Albany Devils News Release
Lowell, MA - Barry Tallackson's blast with 42 seconds left in overtime vaulted the Lowell Devils (21-20-3-1) to a 3-2 triumph over the Portland Pirates (20-18-2-5) on Saturday night at the Tsongas Arena.
Lowell took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame on a slapper by Andy Greene, whose fifth of the season snuck inside the left post at 11:53. It was the seventh point (3g-4a) in the last seven games for Greene, who is off to represent the Lowell Devils for Team PlanetUSA at the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic on Sunday and Monday.
Late in the second stanza, the Devils made it 2-0 on the power play. Chris Minard potted his team-leading 18th of the season at 16:23, off a feed from David Clarkson. Geoff Peters put the Pirates on the board in the final minute of the second period, rifling a shot to the top corner from the left circle at 19:06. The Devils outshot the Pirates 16-12 through the first 40 minutes.
Peters victimized Devils G Frank Doyle for the second time in the game at 4:51, knotting the score at 2-2. Eric Weinrich assisted on both Portland goals in his second game back from retirement. The teams went back and forth over the remainder of the third period, but both Doyle and Portland G Dov Grumet-Morris held their ground the rest of the way.
The Devils had numerous opportunities in the extra session, outshooting Portland 6-2 in overtime. Tallackson, who had been denied on several quality chances throughout the evening by Grumet-Morris, pounced on an errant pass in the Pirates zone. His seventh of the season nicked off the left post and tickled the twine for the game winner.
