Providence Bruins News Release
Worcester, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Worcester Sharks 5-2 Saturday evening at the DCU Center. The P-Bruins got goals from David Krejci, Ben Walter, Nate Thompson and two goals from Petr Kalus. Providence is now on a ten game point streak and has 54 points with a 25-18-1-3 record, only three points out of second place in the Atlantic Division.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 3:56 mark of the opening period. Kris Versteeg sent a pass from the P-Bruins zone to Krejci at the Sharks blue line. From the top of the right face off circle, Krejci sent the puck past Worcester net minder Thomas Greiss. Dwayne Zinger had the second assist. Later in the period, at the 11:18 mark, Providence opened up a 2-0 lead. Walter picked-up a loose puck just outside the Sharks crease and batted it into the net. Pascal Pelletier and Jonathan Sigalet set up the goal. Providence capped off the first period scoring at the 15:00 mark. Martins Karsums took a shot, which Greiss saved, but the rebound came to Thompson and he sent the puck through Greiss' five hole and into the net. Nate DiCasmirro recorded the second assist as the P-Bruins went into the first intermission with a 3-0 lead.
In the second period, the P-Bruins extended their lead to 4-0 at the 3:40 mark. While on the power play, Versteeg sent the puck to Kalus, who was open in between the circles. He shot the puck past Greiss for his first of two goals this evening. Sigalet had the other assist. The P-Bruins added a second power play goal in the period, once again by Kalus. He redirected the puck into the net off a shot from Mark Stuart. Matt Lashoff recorded the second assist as the P-Bruins went into the second intermission with a 5-0 lead.
In the third period the Sharks pulled within three goals of the P-Bruins. The Sharks grabbed their first goal at the 7:14 mark with Mike Iggulden tallying his first of two goals. Patrick Traverse and Graham Mink had the assists. At the 18:38 mark, Worcester's Iggulden scored again, this time with Brady Leisenring picking up the lone assist. The P-Bruins held on after that for the 5-2 victory.
Jordan Sigalet stopped all 18 shots he faced and Philippe Sauve stopped 14 of 16 shots for the P-Bruins, while Greiss made 24 saves for the Sharks. Providence was 2 for 7 on the power play, while Worcester went 0 for 6 on the man-advantage.
