Iowa Chops News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars hosted the Chicago Wolves on Saturday evening for their last game before the AHL All-Star break. Iowa was unable to extend their winning streak to four games, dropping a 7-3 decision in front of 7,358 fans, the largest crowd of the 2006-07 season.

Chicago's Colin Stuart gave the Wolves an early lead just :54 seconds into the opening period. Stuart, who was all alone in front of the net, took a behind-the-back pass from Steve Martins and notched his seventh goal of the season. The Stars answered that goal just over six minutes later. Iowa's Joel Lundqvist was the beneficiary of some strong fore-checking in front of the Chicago net. Lundqvist fired a slap-shot from the top of the slot that sailed past a stunned Fred Brathwaite in the Chicago net. Mark Ardelan gave Iowa a 2-1 lead when he grabbed the puck in front the Chicago goal and put it past Brathwaite. Ardelan's goal pushed his points-streak to five games. Chicago's Kevin Doell evened the score at two with a goal that went through the legs of a screened Dan Ellis. Iowa tied a franchise record for most shots in a single period with 21. The previous mark was set on March 26th, 2006.

Steve Martins regained the lead for Chicago with a shorthanded goal. Martins, skating in on a two-on-one, took a nice ‘saucer-pass' from Derek MacKenzie and beat a sprawling Ellis at 6:05 of the second period. Iowa tied the game at three at the 10:03 mark. Matt DeMarchi registered his first point in an Iowa uniform when his shot from the top of the right circle was redirected by Junior Lessard into the Chicago goal. The goal was Lessard's team-leading 18th of the season. Chicago was able to take a 4-3 lead into the second intermission as a result of a Corey Larose goal. Larose's goal came when he collected the puck from behind the Iowa goal, just crossed the goal-line and roofed a shot over a fallen Dan Ellis.

Steve Martins registered his second goal of the game just five minutes into the third period. Alex Bourret then potted his ninth and 10th of the season at the 5:30 and 18:30 marks, respectively. Guillauma Desbiens and Jon Awe garnered their second assists of the game on Bourret's final goal.
