Following Monday's off day, Tacoma will begin a six-game homestand on Tuesday, with a 12:05 p.m. first pitch vs. Salt Lake at Cheney Stadium.

RHP Darren McCaughan vs. RHP Miguel Yajure

#DarrenDay: 2023 is the fifth season in which right-hander Darren McCaughan has pitched for Tacoma. His 75th career start for the Rainiers will be this afternoon, tying him with Jim Hughes of the 1973-74 and 1977 Tacoma Twins for sixth-most in franchise history. Tim Harikkala made 76 starts for the Rainiers from 1995-98.

McCaughan has accumulated 359 strikeouts with Tacoma, which are fifth-most in Tacoma's Triple-A history (since 1960). Ryan Franklin is fourth, with 388 K for the 1997-2001 Rainiers.

SCHEIN BRIGHT: Rainiers INFJake Scheiner leads all of Triple-A in both home runs (24) and RBI (82); his 71 runs scored are second at the level but most in the Pacific Coast League...the PCL MVP candidate also ranks top four on the circuit in walks (58), extra-base hits (43) and total bases (179). Scheiner is batting .343 (37x108) with RISP (13 HR). His 82 RBI are already the most in a season for Tacoma since 2017, when Daniel Vogelbach drove in 83 runs. Stefen Romero had 85 RBI for the 2016 Rainiers.

CALIFORNIA DROUGHT: Tacoma's 73 home runs with at least one runner on base are the most in Triple-A (Las Vegas, 72). The Rainiers have been held without a home run in three consecutive games however, a first for this season. Last season, Tacoma hit a franchise record 216 homers, and was not held homerless in three straight games (no HR in 2 straight 11x).

FAST FRIENDS: Tacoma's 129 stolen bases lead El Paso by one for most in the PCL, with three Rainiers in the league's top 10 (Cade Marlowe- 25, Mason McCoy- 20, Cooper Hummel- 18)...McCoy has not been caught, and is closing in on his career-high of 22 swipes, set last season with Tacoma (124 GP). El Paso stole nine bases during their 6-3 win at OKC on Friday, and former Rainier Tim Lopes stole five. A season ago, the Rainiers led all of Triple-A (by 13) with a franchise record 205 steals.

HAPPY FESTAVUS: Rainiers RHP Matt Festa leads Triple-A in saves, with 14 (15 SVO). In 26 games with Tacoma (32.0 IP, 27 K), his ERA is 0.56 (2 ER). Triple-A hitters are batting a meager .107 against Festa (0.75 WHIP), who also has 9.0 MLB IP with Seattle this season (8 G).

FUTURES GAME: Entering today's action, Seattle Mariners MiLB affiliates (all levels) have the third-best combined winning percentage of the 30 organizations, at .542 (232-196). Double-A Arkansas has already clinched a postseason berth, after a 45-24 first half to win the Texas League's North Division. Only Philadelphia (.553) and Los Angeles-NL (.624) are winning at a higher MiLB clip so far this season.

OLLER LUCK: After being optioned to Tacoma on July 12 (waivers, OAK), RHP Adam Oller has turned in a pair of quality starts for the Rainiers: 14.0 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 14 K. Tacoma is 0-2 in his starts however, scoring only three total runs.

GRAND OPENING, GRAND CLOSING: The Rainiers have hit 20 home runs in the first inning this season, equal to Las Vegas and Salt Lake for most in the Pacific Coast League. Sacramento's game-winning homer last night was their league-leading 12th in the ninth inning, breaking a tie with Tacoma and Oklahoma City. Round Rock, who have the fewest ninth inning home runs this season, three, have hit the ONLY extra-inning home run in the PCL this season. Tacoma's 14 runs in extra innings this season (5-6) are most in the PCL, by four (SAC & OKC, 10 each).
