Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 6-3 to the Kansas City T-Bones at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Saturday night.

The T-Bones pushed across two unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie and ultimately held on for the win. After Ray Sadler drew a leadoff walk, Jonathan Jaspe dragged a sacrifice bunt attempt up the first base line. Jorge Delgado's throw hit Jaspe in the back, and although Thomas Fitzgerald was able to barehand the ball in mid-air with his foot on the bag, Jaspe was ruled safe. Jared Simon retired Brian Joynt for the first out of the inning and then was relieved by left-hander Eric Gilliland. Gilliland retired Dwayne White on a foul popup to third base, but walked Alberto Espinosa and Fernando Garcia back-to-back to force home the lead run. Aharon Eggleston singled to right to drive in Jaspe. On the same hit, Espinosa was thrown out at the plate by Jorge Cortes to end the inning.

Reliever Kyle Dahman worked around a leadoff single in the bottom of the eighth by Cortes to keep Kansas City in front by two runs. After the T-Bones added another run in the top of the ninth on a single down the left field line from Jaspe, Andy Shipman worked out of a jam in the bottom half to retire the side with tying run at the plate. Shipman earned his second save of the season.

The T-Bones took an early 1-0 lead against starter Jonathan Ellis. Sadler's sacrifice fly to deep right field drove in Eggleston who led off the game with a walk.

Wichita tied it in the bottom half on a two-out, RBI double to center field from Juan Richardson. Delgado hit a two-out, groundball single up the middle in the bottom of the third to give the Wingnuts a 2-1 lead.

After the T-Bones scored twice in the top of the sixth against Ellis to move in front 3-2, Thomas Fitzgerald singled through the left side in the bottom of the seventh to re-tie the game.

Ellis took a no-decision, allowing three earned runs in 6.2 innings. Ellis allowed six hits, two walks, and struck out four.

T-Bones starter T.J. Large earned the win, allowing three earned runs on five hits. Large walked five and struck out two.

Simon took the loss, allowing two unearned runs in two-thirds of an inning.

All nine of the Wingnuts' starters reached base with either a hit or a walk.

Prior to the game, the Wingnuts traded left-handed pitcher Trent Lare to Kansas City, in exchange for a player to be named later. Wichita also activated lefty Eric Gilliland from the 7-Day DL.

The series concludes on Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. Justin Murray takes the hill against left-hander Reid Santos. For tickets, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS or visit the Wingnuts' official website at www.wichitawingnuts.com.
