Fargo-Moorhead 13, Lincoln 4
Fargo got out to a quick start and poured it on late as they downed Lincoln 13-4. Redhawks 2B Carlo Cota scored three times and was an impressive 4-for-5 at the dish including two doubles. CF Nic Jackson and C Phil Britton each collected three hits and three RBI. Fargo-Moorhead starter Jake Laber pitched 6.1 innings, scattered nine hits, and did not allow an earned run. He picked up the win and improved his record to 3-0. Lincoln CF Blake Gailen hit his fourth homerun of the season and finished 3-for-5.
Gary South Shore 8, Winnipeg 0
SS Brad Boyer had four hits and four RBI as Gary South Shore shutout Winnipeg by an 8-0 count. The RailCats tallied 16 hits in all, including five extra-base hits, with five hitters contributing multi-hit performances. Starter Jack Frawley went eight strong innings allowing five hits while striking out four. He evened his record at 2-2 with the win. Winnipeg starter Andrew Walker pitched well as he gave up three earned runs in six innings, but fell to 1-2 with the loss.
Ft. Worth 8, Amarillo 3
Ft. Worth roughed up Amarillo starter Matt Elliott for eight runs in the first four frames and cruised to an 8-3 win. LF Marcos Rodriguez doubled and drove in three and the Cats hitters showed patience at the plate as they drew seven walks in the contest. Ft. Worth starter Wade Mackey went 5.2 innings and allowed three runs on five hits. He improved to 2-0 with the win. RF Cyle Hankerd was a bright spot for the Sox as he finished 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Shreveport-Bossier 2, El Paso 1
Two runs in the first inning was all the Captains pitching staff needed as Shreveport-Bossier topped El Paso 2-1. Ryan DiPietro allowed nine hits but just one run in 6.2 innings. He fanned seven men to move his record to 5-0 with the win. Diablos starter David Whigham was the hard luck loser as he went eight innings and struck out six while allowing just two earned runs. RF Bryan Sabatella and C Brian Peterson led the Captains offense as they collected five of the team's 10 total hits.
St. Paul 5, Grand Prairie 4
C Richard Mercado homered as part of a 3-for-5 performance to lead St. Paul to a 5-4 win over Grand Prairie. Saints 3B Ronnie Bourquin also collected three hits and 2B Justin Snyder added two hits and two walks. With both starting pitchers out of the game by the fifth inning, it became a battle of the bullpens. St. Paul took a 5-4 lead into the sixth inning and neither team was able to plate a run for the remainder of the contest. Grand Prairie 1B John Alonso led the AirHogs attack with a 3-for-4 night at the plate.
Sioux City 4, Sioux Falls 2
Sioux City used a strong outing from starter Ty Marotz to double up Sioux Falls by a count of 4-2. Marotz picked up his second win of the season as he allowed just one earned run on six hits over seven innings of work. Explorers C Ray Serrano sparked the Sioux City offense as he finished 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Sioux Falls starter Chris Salberg struck out six batters in six innings but surrendered seven hits and five walks. His record dropped to 1-4 with the loss.
Kansas City 6, Wichita 3
Kansas City broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the eighth inning before adding an insurance run in the ninth as they downed Wichita 6-3. Starter TJ Large did the job for the T-Bones as he held the Wingnuts to three runs on five hits over seven innings. He improved his record to 2-3 with the victory. C Jonathan Jaspe led the Kansas City offense as he finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. The teams combined to leave 18 men on base in the contest.
