T-Bones Drop Series Opener, 4-3, to Winnipeg

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - After completing a suspended game from June 23, the Kansas City T-Bones (28-36) fell, 4-3, to the Winnipeg Goldeyes (39-23) in tonight's regularly scheduled contest at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

In front of 4,734 fans, Winnipeg started the second frame with back-to-back home runs off Dustin Bolton (3-4) from Brent Metheny and Dee Brown. The Goldeyes extended their lead in the third when Juan Diaz added a solo shot, giving them a 3-0 advantage.

The T-Bones remained quiet during the first three innings before Greg Jacobs singled off Andrew Cruse (5-3) to begin the fourth. He moved to second on a single by Craig Hurba and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Neb Brown. A sacrifice fly by Jim Fasano plated Jacobs, cutting the Goldeyes lead to 3-1.

Jacob Blackwood singled to start the fifth inning and then stole second. He scored on an RBI single by Aharon Eggleston, bringing Kansas City within one. Eggleston stole second before an RBI triple by Jacobs tied the game at three.

Brent Metheny hit his second solo home run of the game with two outs in the sixth to put Winnipeg back on top and cap the scoring on the night.

Bolton took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits over eight and one-thirds innings. Payton Tweddale and Justin James each threw one-third of an inning to finish the game for Kansas City. Cruse earned the win, surrendering three runs on seven hits in five innings. Matt Davis threw a perfect ninth for the Goldeyes to pick up his 12th save of the year.

Jacobs finished the night four-for-four with a double, triple, RBI and run scored. Eggleston extended his on-base streak to 24 games with a one-for-four night, giving him the second longest such streak in the league this season.

The T-Bones and Goldeyes will finish another suspended game tomorrow night before playing a seven-inning contest. Kansas City will resume the suspended game with a 1-0 advantage in the top of the third. First pitch for the first game is set for 6:05. Tickets for the T-Bones start at just $6.
