
Railcats Take Game One of the Series With a 12-6 Win

RAILCATS TAKE GAME ONE OF THE SERIES WITH A 12-6 WIN
JOLIET-The Gary SouthShore RailCats (37-28) scored six runs in the 9th inning to snap a 6-6 tie and earn a 12-6 win over the Joliet JackHammers (24-41) before 3,323 fans at U.S. Steel Yard on Tuesday night.
The RailCats started the scoring with three runs in the 1st inning against Joliet RHP Derek Barrows. LF Mike Massaro (3-5) led off the inning with a single and moved to third base on a double by 2B Eric McNamee (3-6).
A two-run single by SS Jay Pecci (1-5) scored both men for a 2-0 RailCats lead. Two batters later, RF Christian Guerrero (1-5) smacked an RBI double to plate Haake for a 3-0 Gary lead.
The JackHammers tied the game with three runs in the 2nd inning. RF Joe Gaetti (2-3) led off the inning with a single and moved to second base on a single by DH Kyle Nichols (2-4). 2B Rob Dahlberg (3-3) followed with an RBI single to score Gaetti and get the JackHammers on the scoreboard at 3-1.
CF Adam Klein (1-3) and SS Kevin Rios (1-4) followed with RBI singles to score Nichols and Dahlberg for a 3-3 tied score.
Joliet would go on to score six unanswered runs to take a 6-2 lead.
In the 3rd inning, LF Brad Correll (1-5) led off the inning with a single. Gaetti hit his first home run in a Joliet uniform when he powered a two-run home run over the center field wall for a 5-3 lead.
In the 6th inning, Nichols led off the inning with a double and scored on a double by Dahlberg for a 6-3 lead.
The RailCats added three runs over the 6th and 7th innings to tie the game at 6-6. C Anthony Esquer (2-4) and CF Rob Marconi (1-5) traded a pair of two-out singles in the 6th inning. Both runners scored on a double by Massaro.
An RBI double by LF Jordan Czarniecki (1-4) tied the game at 6-6 in the 7th inning.
In the 9th inning, 2B Eric McNamee (3-6) started the inning with a single and was erased when Pecci hit into a fielder's choice. 1B Steve Haake (1-5) singled him to third base. McNamee scored on a wild pitch issued by RHP Chad Blackwell. It was the first of six runs to give the RailCats a 12-6 lead.
The JackHammers continue their three-game series with Gary at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday night. The JackHammers will host an MDA Jersey auction before the game. It's also Christmas in July sponsored by Cardinal Fitness and another Winning Wednesday with pre-game catch on the field from 6:20-6:40 p.m. The JackHammers will play Baseball Bingo with fans at the game tomorrow night. The Gary SouthShore RailCats send RHP Derell McCall (1-0, 3.60) against RHP Nate Sevier (0-0, 2.19) for the JackHammers.
